Tidy up the trail for all the community to enjoy.

Organizer: John Gardner, Tim Steffens

Trail Section: Pikes Peak Greenway Trail from 8th Street Wal-Mart to the Bijou Bridge.

General Info

The Pikes Peak Road Runners have adopted a section of the Pikes Peak Greenway Trail. Monthly cleanups are held to pick up trash and other treasures along the trail. The monthly cleanups occur on the first Saturday of each month.  Meet at the 8th Street Wal-Mart, in the SE corner of the parking lot.  The cleanups last for about 2 hours.

Everybody is welcome to come and help clean the trail. Bring a pair of work gloves.  Trash bags will be provided.  If it's a warm day, also bring a bottle of water to refresh yourself.

Event History

The trail cleanups first started in April of 1998.  Dave Balzer was the PPRR president back then, and he started this activity as a way to give something back to the community, other than our normal efforts of organizing a race or a training run.  We runners use the trails all the time, so it only makes sense that we help in keeping them clean.  We were originally assigned the trail section from the Bijou Bridge to Dorchester Park near Nevada Ave.  This became too much for us to handle, so we cut it down to cover from the Bijou Bridge to the 8th Street Wal-Mart.

Dave Balzer led the effort for the first couple of years, followed by Dave Sorenson, Don Johnson, and now Tim Steffens and John Gardner.  The clean-ups have been on a monthly basis.
